Suncatchers with Stands

A suncatcher can brighten not just a window, but a whole room.  However, a window may not be available in the room where you want to add art, you may want a slightly larger piece of art.

One way to enjoy you glass art piece from all positions in the room, is to select a piece that sits in a wooden stand, such as this collection of birds shown here.  The birds are fused onto clear glass and then sit upright in a grooved wooden stand.

The non-glass portion of making this item, sends me to the table saw to create the stands.  The photo on the left shows the steps, from bottom to top:  a blank piece of stained wood; the wood is run through the saw twice to create a groove that is the right width and depth for the glass to sit at a good viewing angle; at the top, the bird panels are sitting upright in the grooved blank to ensure the slot is the right size.  The remaining step is shown on the left, where the long grooved piece is cut to the correct width to create a vertical stand for the bird panels.
