Soap Dishes

Following up on the previous blog, cutting the glass for a soap dish is not as complicated as for many other types of items.  The challenge with soap dishes is to be creative with a small item that has a pre-determined shape.

Shown here are some of the variety of designs, colors and even textures that I use to make each soap dish unique.  Sometimes the glass is the feature of the piece, sometimes it’s a combination of glass, sometimes it’s the texture, and sometimes it’s a combination of all these things.

This second photo shows two of the newest designs.  The white soap dish has two red roses in the bottom instead of small dots to allow for drainage.  The roses are 3D and can come in many colors.  Next to that is a soap dish that starts with a pale brown and is highlighted by multi-color stringers and with the top layer being clear, some bubbles are introduced between the two layers.  The bubbles are unpredictable so each time I open the kiln it is a surprise.
